The Many Health Benefits Of Fat Loss

You may be thinking that you’d like to lose weight so you can look better and fit into smaller clothes. But there are many other benefits to be gained from fat loss. Losing just a little bit of the weight will have effects on your health.

Dropping fat reduces the risks of heart disease which can cause heart attacks and strokes. One of the main contributors to heart disease is high blood pressure. High blood pressure is more common in people who are overweight because the heart has to work harder. Even lowering blood pressure just a little will have huge benefits.

Additionally, levels of triglycerides (fat in the blood) are higher with heavier people. The so-called ‘good cholesterol’ is lower and the ‘bad cholesterol’ is higher. This leads to clogged arteries and poor blood flow. This not only raises the risk of and heart attacks, but also leads to bad circulation.

It also leads to poor blood circulation. This means oxygen is not being delivered throughout the body as it should be. The brain is one of those places. Less oxygen to the brain can cause trouble sleeping, mood swings and inability to concentrate.

Overweight people are also more likely to get diabetes. With excess fat in the body, sugars are not broken down correctly, leading to a high sugar level of the blood.

Studies have indicated that obesity and being overweight dramatically increases the chances for various types of cancer. Colon, kidney, and prostate cancers are more common in those who have gained significant amounts of weight. Post-menstrual breast cancer is also higher among heavier women.

The good news is that losing even a little fat will start you on your way to drastic health improvements. Bad health habits, like poor eating can create a loop of poor health and continued poor eating. The opposite is true with good eating habits. The healthier you become, the more capable you are of exercising. In turn, as you exercise more, the healthier you will get! It is a cycle of good.

And as for wanting to look good and fit into smaller sizes- that is a good benefit too! When you feel better about how you look, you will be more positive and have higher self esteem. Healthier attitudes lead to improved health too. So make today the day you begin improving how you feel. Start exercising; even something as basic as walking will help. Do not overdo it at first. You may get burned out, especially if the results are slow. Slow results are more likely to last, so don’ worry!

Results will keep you motivated with your goal of fat loss. You can also keep yourself on track but giving yourself rewards for hitting milestones. Set goals within reach so you don’t get discouraged. A good treat would be a new pair of (smaller!) pants. You will feel better and more importantly, you will be healthier.
